The USFL is entering the final week of its 10-week regular season, and there are no more undefeated teams.

The Birmingham Stallions lost for the first time in Week 9. Despite being heavily favored against the Houston Gamblers, their 1-7 division rival pulled off the biggest upset in the upstart league’s short history.

As such, the Stallions will enter Week 9 with an 8-1 record, and instead of focusing on an undefeated season, their focus will shift to the playoffs.

The USFL’s four-team playoff field is now set, as the last available playoff spot was clinched by the New Orleans Breakers in Week 9. They will face the Stallions in the playoffs while the New Jersey Generals will face the Philadelphia Stars in both Week 10 and the first round of the playoffs.

USFL Saturday Games TV Channels, Live Streams

Here’s how to watch the two USFL games that will be played on Saturday.

Generals versus Stars

  • To start up: 12 p.m. ET
  • TV channel: NBC
  • Direct: fuboTV
  • Odds (via Sports interactions): Generals -2.5 (-120) | Stars +2.5 (-120)

The Generals and Stars are set to face off in the first round of the 2022 USFL Playoffs, so it’s fair to wonder if they’ll be resting players in this contest. Both teams surely want to win, but neither wants to lose a key playmaker on either side of the ball at this stage of the season. They also don’t want to reveal their potential plans for their playoff encounter in Canton.

As such, it’s hard to say exactly what will happen in this week’s game. In all likelihood, the Stars will give quarterback KJ Costello some rep like they did against the Maulers while the Generals could spell De’Andre Johnson and Luis Perez with third-string quarterback Kyle Lauletta.

Either way, expect to see plenty of saves get meaningful action in this game, whether for the entire contest or during the second half.

Bandits against stallions

  • To start up: 4 p.m. ET
  • TV channel: Fox
  • Direct: fuboTV
  • Odds (via Sports interactions): Stallions -4.5 (-120) | Bandits +4.5 (-120)

The Stallions’ dreams of an unbeaten season came to an end in Week 9 when they lost to the Gamblers as 12.5 point favourites. Now, the de facto USFL home side will have to settle for competing for the inaugural league title instead of an unbeaten season.

It’s unclear how Birmingham will manage their roster in Week 10. For one, they have the No.1 seed in the Southern Division locked down, so they might choose to seat some of their starters. On the other hand, Skip Holtz may want to see his team respond to a loss, so J’Mar Smith, Bo Scarbrough and Scooby Wright could see some action against the Bandits.

Speaking of Tampa Bay, their 17-6 loss to New Orleans knocked them out of the playoffs, so they’re playing for pride. Jordan Ta’amu is coming off a solid game with his legs (90 rushing yards) and had some big passes. He will provide the studs with a test as he looks to prove he deserves a shot at joining an NFL roster.

USFL Sunday Game TV Channels, Live Streams

Here’s how to watch the two USFL games that will be played on Sunday.

Maulers vs. Panthers

  • To start up: 12 p.m. ET
  • TV channel: UNITED STATES
  • Direct: fuboTV
  • Odds (via Sports interactions): Panthers -2.5 (-120) | Maulers +2.5 (-120)

This may be the only game in the USFL where both teams have something to play for. Both of these teams have sad 1-8 records, and the loser of this contest will officially win the title of worst team in the USFL.

The Panthers shut out the Maulers 24-0 earlier in the season and have a much better offense than the Maulers. Michigan is averaging 19.8 points per game thanks to its strong running game with Reggie Corbin, Stevie Scott and Cameron Scarlett.

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh alternates Vad Lee and Roland Rivers III at quarterback and has averaged just 14 points per game this season. Unless the Maulers can slow down the Panthers’ running game, they will struggle to beat Michigan.

Players vs. Breakers

  • To start up: 8:30 p.m. ET
  • TV channel: FS1
  • Direct: fuboTV
  • Odds (via Sports interactions): Circuit breakers -4.5 (-120) | Players +4.5 (-120)

The Breakers clinched fourth and final USFL playoff berth with their victory over the Bandits in Week 9. They are now set to face Birmingham – to whom they have lost twice – in the playoffs and will likely move on. lots of time planning games. beat their rivals.

New Orleans quarterbacks Kyle Sloter and Zach Smith are both banged up, so Larry Fedora may choose to rest them this week and let Shea Patterson start. Patterson has had his share of struggles with the Panthers, so Jordan Ellis, Anthony Jones and the current New Orleans game will have to carry the team.

As for the Gamblers, their defense played a great game against the Stallions to earn a signature win for Kevin Sumlin’s side. Chris Odom and Donald Payne will have to step in again to give Houston’s lackluster offense a chance to stay with the Breakers. But if New Orleans uses its third-string quarterback, the Gamblers could end the season with back-to-back victories.

Hello again readers. It’s hard to believe it’s been a full week since I rewrote the last of them, but the timeline doesn’t lie. The VG247 The Best Games Ever Podcast returns, with Episode 4. This week we’re talking about the most British thing: ads. And by “talk” I mean, discuss the best game with a pub. Are the games good and what makes a good pub? That and more will be brought to you through the people speaking in the podcast below.

“What’s VG247’s Best Games Ever Podcast?” you ask, probably because you’ve never read any of these pages before, as if you already know. Anyway, if you still need to be informed, here’s the truth: every week, three of us have to submit our picks for the best game of all time that matches the show’s title ( this week it must be a game that we feel is actually very good (has a pub – or some bar/drinking establishment). Then our host/judge, Jim Trinca, will use his biased opinions to declare a winner and leave us two with the bump.

Each episode of the Best Games Ever podcast will be approximately 30 minutes long. Enough that you can eat a whole bag of Share Size Chocos without having to slow down too much, but not too long that you then have to reach for the Doritos. Hopefully you can find room in your podcast listening schedule for 30 minutes. Otherwise, just cut one of the boring ones. Do you really need 15 real crime shows, one about the lives of dog walkers and the rantings of a man who only dines at all-you-can-eat restaurants? Fair enough, I would listen to the latter.

That’s it. Check Podcast VG247’s Best Games of All Time on Apple Podcasts and subscribe. Or listen on Spotify. It’s even on Youtube if that’s your thing. Please let us know what you think of the show – and if this is your first time listening to it, come back and listen to previous episodes. They are not topical at all, so go wild.

We’ve got some details on the show’s content below (if you want to refresh your memory before heading to the comments to make a wonderful and thoughtful post), so if you want to avoid spoilers, don’t scroll. this man who poses ( Support friends of VG247, People Make Games, on Patreon).

Best game with a pub

That’s the subject of episode four of VG247’s Best Games Ever podcast. Here’s a look at who picked what.

Tom – prey 2006

Prey, the 2006 game isn’t entirely dissimilar to an altogether more po-faced Arkane reboot, is very much of its time – all the big guns, mega violence and ghastly man/machine hybrids, but it was a really fun shooter that had a great portal mechanic – long before Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart did something similar (and better). There was also a brilliant pub, with a bar fight and Fear the Reaper playing on the jukebox. It’s a real classic of the time.

Alex – The Secret of Monkey Island

When I think of ads in games, most games that immediately come to mind do so because their ads are horribly cartoonish, or totally unrealistic. Although I’ve never been to a real pirate bar, I have to imagine Scumm Bar wouldn’t elicit that reaction even if I had – it feels like a real, legitimate place that fits perfectly into its world. Mainly, it’s all about the atmosphere – with a limited color palette, a single screen and a music track, it sells itself as a believable place. It has that in common with much of the game it comes from, the excellent The Secret of Monkey Island. I could listen to upbeat music from the bar all day.

Connor – Everybody left for the kidnapping

The first game that came to mind when I thought of a game with a pub was Everyone’s Gone to the Rapture, a cool little game that won lots of awards when it was released in 2015. Pretty interesting from a narrative point of view, as well as really great to look at, there are several British pubs you can walk into and have a look around! We’re talking tiled roofs, a white exterior paint job, a wooden interior, and proper faucet handles built into the bar. You even have the sketchy bottles of red and gin out of reach. For me it perfectly captures the real look of British pubs better than any other game!

Let us know which game you would choose and if you agree that Jim needs to be stopped. If you like the podcast, subscribe and leave a comment saying how wonderful it is, and tell all your friends. Tweet about it if you like, or post on Facebook – we’ll get all the exposure we can get.

Floppy Knights has received a lot of attention since its release, especially because it arrived on Xbox Game Pass on day one. Much of the hype also comes from its quirky characters, challenging yet fun deck-building and turn-based gameplay, and charming cartoonish art style.

Related: Beginner’s Guide to Floppy Knights

You can spend countless hours trying to help Phoebe and Carlton use their floppy disk creations to defeat their enemies and finally get out of Phoebe’s parents’ house. It’s easy to get sucked into this world, and it ends up making you crave more tactical and card-based strategy games with equally enticing premises. Luckily for you, there are a few great titles that could hit the mark.

GAME VIDEO OF THE DAY

ten Obsidian Prince

If you really like the grid-based turn-based combat aspect of Floppy Knights, you’ll enjoy Obsidian Prince. It’s more of a dungeon crawler, but it doesn’t feel boring due to the smooth tile movements and fun enemy progression.

It starts off perfectly with a nod to the games before. As with any fantasy setting that has you slaying monsters left and right, Obsidian Prince’s first mission is to kill rats.

It’s quirky but punishing if you don’t think about your tactics. Limited energy comes into play when exploring, and you can’t return to places you left off (which is very upsetting to find out when it’s too late). “Inspiration Cards” and “Stories” serve as decks that passively affect your hero’s build and give you actions.

Every piece of text is worth reading and the art style makes exploring a treat. Beneath these seemingly shining aspects, however, permanent death lurks.

9 Oak

Oaken is a magical roguelike that sets its turn-based combat in a glowing world with mythical creatures all around. The biggest draw to exploring the Grand Oak is the art style. While beautiful character models and world environments have become the standard for open world gamesit’s still a sight to behold for games like Oaken.

This title is still in early access, but it already does a great job using turn-based card tactics. Plus, you can collect guides for each race, so the replayability is there. It’s great to build your strategy as you progress, especially when it comes to riskier games.

8 paper soldiers

Paper Soldiers is a hidden gem, largely because it was created by one person, and it’s only available on Itch.io for download. You can get it for free or pay whatever amount you want to support its independent creator, Andriy Bychkovskyi.

Related: Best Games on Itch.Io, Ranked

This game has a short intro on how you need to defeat a tyrannical king, then it throws you straight into the game with no real tutorial. However, it’s not hard to grasp the gameplay through some trial and error on your first spin.

You can hover your mouse over cards and icons to figure out what they do, then build your deck to place actions on the tiles until you exhaust the king’s power, while preventing your own resources from falling to zero.

What’s great about this little game is its fun little descriptions, nice art style, and simple interface. You can also overthrow a corrupt monarchy, so that’s a win all round.

seven kill the arrow

Ah, kill the arrow. It really is a game for masochists, yet hard to put down. As the name suggests, you climb The Spire to defeat one last corrupt entity.

You’re never explicitly told you’re the good guy, but you can’t be bad if you have a whale buddy giving you rewards. The game uses turn-based combat and map building, but ditches grid movement to make way for energy-based actions.

A few things to know right away – your health doesn’t automatically regenerate after each encounter, even relics and other buffs you pick up can have their consequences, and the game ends completely if you die.

If you can handle the pain that comes with having to start all over again after reaching high levels and beating countless elites, it’s worth taking on Slay The Spire.

6 Meteorfall: Krumit’s Tale

This game isn’t the first in its series, but you can dive straight in without feeling like you’ve missed a thing. It has a great comic book feel, both in art style and in Krumit’s voice.

Using your deck, you fight monsters on different tiles. You unlock various heroes and travel the world to save it from the horrors of Nukropolis. The game can feel very difficult at times, but the fun story and style is enough to temper any frustration you might feel after a number of defeats.

5 Oogy: can you help me?

Another entry that falls comfortably into the eccentric gang of bridge builders, Oogy: Can You Help puts you in the shoes of a sheep who is tasked through a gateway named Phil to help (or defeat, if you will). please) a bunch of household items. You read that sentence correctly.

The game is fun, doesn’t take itself too seriously, and has a great interface if you want something more minimalist. You’ll mostly see a few fun designs and backgrounds for each “room” you enter, but there isn’t much else in terms of visuals.

Related: The weirdest games on Steam

Oogy’s strengths really lie in the humor of his conversations, the absurdity of the concept, and the mystery behind why you got into this predicament in the first place.

There’s also a demo available if you want to try being called a sheep without feeling offended.

4 Registration

Now here’s a game that challenges you to put all the cards on the table (pun intended). Inscryption looks noticeably darker and more confronting than other titles due to its story and design.

The game almost immediately asks you to make heavy choices that involve trading wildlife for their lives, so it sets the tone without missing a beat. To progress, you build your deck with various creatures while playing against a mysterious character who has your life in his hands. Then more twists appear that raise the stakes even further.

If you want a simple comparison, it’s basically Gwent except a whole lot more gruesome. The gameplay itself is really engaging, but the atmosphere and story is what makes it so memorable.

3 Phobias

When you cast Phobias, you’re greeted by startlingly red lips that address you in a gloriously flamboyant British accent. It’s a fantastic Rocky Horror reference that immediately tells you exactly what you’re getting into.

This pair of sensitive lips is Lippy, your in-game mentor. Basically, you need to use your phobias, or Phobias, as buddies for battle. The basic premise of this game is to overcome fears and use lots of puns, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The the monster design is creative and you have the option of playing up to ten simultaneous battles. This fun mechanic really makes turn-based combat more complex and engaging.

You can even quit the game and return to your current battles, but this can be annoying for other players if you’re playing online. Expect a mobile-style UI to go along with it, as the game initially launched for Android and iOS.

2 Ardor

Ardor is great for its simplicity. You have hex grid-based movement, energy used per card, and tactics to defeat your enemies on the board, and that’s it.

If you’re looking for a story, you’re not really going to find one. The great thing about Ardor is that it doesn’t necessarily need a story to be fun. You just dive into campaign mode or punish yourself with endless mode.

The mechanics and upgrade system are really polished, considering how new the release is. You earn “teeth” for upgrading your cards, and maybe it’s best that players don’t know why the payout system is teeth.

The best part is that it’s free on Steam, so you literally lose nothing by giving this addictive game a chance.

1 Signs of stay

Unlike the others on this list, Signs Of The Sojourner is entirely deck-based. The cards you collect come into play only insofar as you need to match the symbols in order to get positive results in the conversations.

It’s kind of a nightmare for players determined to make sure every NPC loves them, but it makes the world even more immersive and really makes card tactics essential. As you travel with your caravan and talk to more people, you learn more about the world you live in.

It’s a gripping tale worth replaying multiple times to fully enjoy the experience. Each race even changes your encounters, so it feels like new revelations and new routes are revealed every time.

There’s never been such an exciting time to be a video game fan, and the kinds of immersive experiences that are now possible would have seemed impossible a few decades ago. The level of technology and scope of storytelling that video games now offer is incredible, but there are also more game genres than ever before to satisfy the needs of different niches.

RELATED: 10 Best And Most Powerful Dragons, Dinosaurs And Lizards In Marvel Comics

A topic of interest that many video games have experimented with to some degree are dinosaurs, whether in original stories or adaptations of popular movie franchises. Most video games present dinosaurs as terrifying monsters, but there are also plenty that portray the opposite and deal with creatures that evoke friendship, not fear.

ten Primal Rage’s Talon is a righteous beast who wants to see Urth survive

The success of ultra-violent fighting games like mortal combat opened the floodgates for extreme imitators. Primal Rage is a one-on-one combat title set in an apocalyptic world where monsters emerge from Earth and are worshiped as fearsome gods by mankind. The eight characters of Primal Rage are different creatures that range from dinosaurs to King Kong-esque simians.

These creatures are split into two factions – the Destroyer Beasts and the Righteous Beasts – the latter being the most likely to be considered friendly. Talon is a raptor nicknamed the god of survival, and his simple white mane does a lot to make this beast as cuddly as a dinosaur can be.

9 Rampage’s Lizzie is the friendliest take on the giant lizard trope

The destroyer Carnage The games are a fun and subversive twist on the action genre where the player controls the monster instead of a human struggling to fight it.

George, Ralph, and Lizzie are a giant gorilla, a wolf, and a lizard, respectively, who thrive on consuming civilians and destroying society. Technically, Lizzie might not be a dinosaur, but she’s not that far off in terms of design and attitude. Lizzie is friendly in the sense that the audience controls the character and she is presented as an anti-hero in her own way.

8 Wario World’s DinoMighty Could Be Much More Menacing

Wario is a Nintendo character who has gone through a fascinating development, starting out as an evil Mario lookalike and becoming one of the most beloved supporting characters in Mario’s group of friends. Wario has also become the star of his own series of games, and the Gamecube gives the character his first fully 3D platformer with Wario World.

RELATED: 10 Mature Developers With Kid-Friendly Origins

The first boss Wario faces as he attempts to retrieve his stolen treasure is DinoMighty, a disgruntled dinosaur with a penchant for tongue-based combat. DinoMighty poses minimal challenge to Wario, and she’s surprisingly friendly to a creature trying to eat the hero.

seven Jurassic World’s blue is even cuter after a LEGO makeover

A weird trend that has only grown stronger over the past decade is the abundance of video games spanning vast film franchises, but everything has been turned into LEGO. All of star wars at Harry Potter at Pirates of the Caribbean received a huge LEGO game adaptation, so it should come as no surprise that jurassic park received the same treatment.

Lego Jurassic World covers the first four movies in the dinosaur franchise, and there’s plenty new to seeing these ferocious lizards in LEGO form. Blue, a raptor, is shown as a friendly companion to humans in jurassic world, and the dinosaur is even more adorable in a LEGO context.

6 Diddy Kong Racing’s Tricky The Triceratops is motivated by a good challenge

Mario Kart 64 will forever remain the most popular racing game on Nintendo 64, but Rare’s Diddy Kong Race is a more ambitious version that combines the racing genre with the narrative and global aspects of an adventure game. Diddy Kong Race is a successful experience, and the game features boss battles in the form of intense one-on-one races.

The first boss challenge in Diddy Kong Race is Tricky, a giant triceratops who’s intimidating in size and speed, but isn’t necessarily evil. Tricky is drawn into Wizpig’s malevolent machinations, but turns into a friend over time.

5 Super Mario World’s Reznors have a bark worse than their bite

Mario encounters a huge Tyrannosaurus Rex in Super Mario Odyssey, but his experience with dinosaurs dates back to his 16-bit days. Super Mario World takes place in a place called Dinosaur Land, so it’s only natural that a multitude of prehistoric creatures are present in this platforming adventure.

RELATED: Top 10 Cutest Kirby Enemies, Ranked

Reznors are fire-breathing triceratops that fill the mid-boss objective and usually attack Mario in a group effort. The Reznors are enemies, but their evil deeds are the result of being cursed by Bowser. Plus, they’re not much of a challenge, and they don’t seem to be fully committed to evil.

4 Star Fox Adventures’ Prince Tricky is a fitting sidekick for the legendary pilot

The star fox The franchise has become one of Nintendo’s most popular properties, and it has established itself as an original take on rail shooters and space combat. The Gamecube Star Fox Adventures pushes the franchise in a different direction in a polarizing adventure by lifting Fox McCloud from the comfort of his Arwing and putting him on his feet as he explores Dinosaur Planet.

Fox encounters a wide array of dinosaurs, but an early triceratops named Tricky, who is actually the prince of the EarthWalker tribe, teams up with Fox on his adventure and is an important part of the story.

3 Baby T helps Crash Bandicoot dominate the prehistoric regions of his adventures

The Crash Bandicoot helped Sony’s PlayStation establish a legitimate platform mascot that could stand up to Nintendo’s Mario. Each of the games in the original Crash Bandicoot the trilogy moves the genre forward in a satisfying way.

The third game in the series, Crash Bandicoot 3: distorted!, Crash saddles with a helpful lizard companion, Baby T. Crash hatches Baby T from an egg in the level “Dino Might!” and it looks like the little dinosaur footprints on the bandicoot. Baby T allows Crash to effectively attack the game’s prehistoric regions, and it also remains for spin-off games in the series.

2 Plessie from Super Mario 3D World becomes an adorable means of transport

The Super Mario The series continues to reinvent the platforming genre in inventive ways, and this level of innovation often involves ambitious and contrasting environments. Super Mario 3D World features Plessie, a giant plesiosaur that helps transport characters through aquatic areas.

Plessie is such a welcome addition to exploration and feels like a creature that really belongs in Mario’s world. Plessie appears as an evolution of the Loch Ness Monster creature, Dorrie, from Super Mario 64, but Plessie has infinitely more personality and a more charming design. It’s hard to be upset every time Plessie shows up.

1 Yoshi has become one of Nintendo’s best characters and the star of his own series

The Nintendo Expansion Super Mario has established dozens of beloved characters over the years, but Mario’s trusty dinosaur sidekick, Yoshi, has been a franchise staple for over 30 years. Yoshi made his Super Nintendo debut Super Mario World, but he’s become the hero of his own series of games and is much more than a support player at this point.

Yoshi as a character continues to grow with new abilities and transformations, but the one constant across all of his video game appearances is that he’s a lovable ally. Yoshi is so cute and friendly that it’s often easy to forget he’s even a dinosaur.

Galaxy Fight Club is available for Android and iOS today, although the game is still in beta testing.

city star

One of the founders of Zynga is working with the team behind Farmwille and Words With Friends to bring us Town Star. The game resides on the Gala blockchain and guides players in building towns and villages. The strategic farming game involves building, managing production, and crafting goods to develop and expand the city. Ultimately, the goal is to sell higher value goods and collect more points than your peers. Additionally, various player-owned assets unlock in-game perks and bonuses. Town Star is still in beta but anyone can play for free during its Season 1 period.

Mirandus

It’s always fun to play a fantasy RPG in an open world with lots of monsters, NPCs and content. Mirandus provides all of this through its five player-monarch ruled game world. Players venture into the wasteland to defeat monsters, clear dungeons, serve monarchs, and more. It is another free game with game mechanics to win, and the game in development is accessible on Windows and Mac.

Spider Tanks

Another MOBA entry on the list of free games and games to win is Spider Tanks. This game is a MOBA/brawler hybrid where players choose their favorite Spider tank and weapon set before battling on different maps. Skill takes center stage in this game, as you need to focus on winning plays, collecting resources, and upgrading your characters accordingly. Spider Tanks is accessible on Windows and Mac and is currently in beta phase.

Favorite of the city

While it’s hard to ignore the similarities between Town Crush and Candy Crush, it’s still an engaging gaming experience. Players mix and match three objects of the same type to score points. In-game items are items in Town Star, including crops, fruits, equipment, and buildings. It’s a great game to play during minor downtime or to fill an evening on the couch. Town Crush is available for web, Android, and iOS and is currently in beta.

The Gamevice for iPad is ideal for experienced iOS users and those who play demanding and complicated games on the go, with only a few drawbacks.

The iPad gaming device is the latest from the company, perhaps best known previously for its work on the Razer Kishi, a mobile gaming controller that has received positive reception thanks to its strong build quality and easy use cases. The Gamevice for iPad is similar to the Kishi in this respect, with technology well-suited to power iOS users or those who play complicated games that require demanding inputs on the go.

Part of the Gamevice for iPad’s appeal is its integration into Xbox’s cloud services, with announced support for Apple Arcade and Xbox Game Pass. That obviously goes a long way for hardware like this, which relies more on what it accentuates to sell it than on the product itself – not that the Gamevice for iPad is outdone. With so many options for mobile gaming now, an iPad screen is attractive thanks to its higher quality resolution and larger surface area, and the Gamevice helps even more by providing a more comfortable layout that also supports shuffling of buttons if necessary.

The Gamevice for iPad is relatively simple to set up, with users receiving a guide as part of the product packaging that specifies how to adjust the controller strips to suit specific generations of iPad. After that, it’s as simple as slotting them into their respective regions, creating a sturdy setup that never threatened to loosen its grip on the expensive hardware in the center while still offering decent hand comfort, especially compared to the horizontal hold of the iPad without any additional technology.

Gamevice for iPad failure

The Gamevice for iPad supports iPads from 5th to 9th generation; the iPad Air 2 and 3; and the 9.7-inch and 10.5-inch iPad Pro variants. The device makes using the iPad for gaming feel a lot like the portability of Switch, which is a clear advantage given that console’s success and appeal. Pressure feedback on controller button presses feels like they’re sinking a bit too much; it can be hard to feel sure that a softer press has been recorded, for example, without the quick return of something more mechanical. It’s a minor complaint, and not one that significantly diminishes the quality of performance, as the buttons are overall responsive and the only inputs missed were the aforementioned softer keys which are as much a user error as a fault of the material.

Gamevice Live, the app that accompanies the product, is extremely simple, offering featured games from streaming services as well as the ability to manage your own favorites within the app. It’s not much, but it doesn’t detract from the service and will probably appeal to some.

In testing, the Gamevice for iPad is exactly what it sounds like – a good controller stand for a device that has the ability to give its users great mobile experiences via cloud-based streaming. That said, even on native iPad software – something like Genshin Impact, for example – the addition of the Gamevice for iPad is extremely welcome. Swapping between this game’s characters and stringing together elemental combos was much easier than on-screen mobile controls used to be, and made the game’s mobile/PC cross-save feature much more appealing for travel situations. .

Overall, the iPad gaming device is a rock-solid product that offers unique functionality in a well-designed and discreet package. It’s especially appealing to those who have Xbox Game Pass or Apple Arcade, but even without, any demanding mobile game (Genshin Impactor most recently published Diablo Immortal) would greatly benefit from its use. At $99.95 on the Gamevice official websiteit’s not exactly the cheapest accessory, but you get what you pay for, and the extra expense has resulted in a sturdy device that seems built to last a long time.

What do we mean when we say an “all-time” great in any genre? It has to be something that has stood the test of time, like all of our choices for the best classic board games. But at the same time, we need to move away from titles that have been diminished by over-familiarity and stray into new and exciting territory. We also want to include things that have been acclaimed to the top of their particular tree at one time or another, to give some historical perspective.

That’s the direction we’ve bought at the list below, a mix of games once considered the best of all time, as well as close contenders that have earned their place through novelty or popularity. They’re all awesome in one way or another, so whatever you choose, you can’t go wrong.

Cosmic Encounter

Many games that revolve around land grabbing tend to involve the kind of tentative alliances and festering enmities that mimic real-world diplomacy. In 1977, the designers of Cosmic Encounter had a brilliant idea: why not get rid of the territory and get straight to the point? The result is this hilarious game of shifting alliances where each player has revolutionary alien power to harness in the race to win colonies on five of your opponent’s planets. Filled with variety, tactical decisions, and twists more dramatic than a prime-time soap opera, Cosmic Encounter might be the only trading game you need.

dark haven
Gloomhaven: the lion's mouth

The current king of the board game stack has succeeded through an ingenious mix of genres. If you like old-school dungeon crawls with a strong narrative, well, the 95 fantasy adventure storyline campaign has you covered. If you love tactical combat, its cunning, card-based clashes against a staggering variety of enemies will delight you. But if you want heavy strategy, the deck building and resource gathering during the campaign, along with the exhaustion mechanic in the storyline, gives you plenty of meat. Truly everything for all gamers – even fans of the best single-player board games – Gloomhaven deserves its staggering level of recognition. And while the cost is a bit high, Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion offers a smaller campaign at a much lower price. And not for nothing, both of these iterations also made our list of the best board games for adults.

Pandemic Legacy: Season 1

Pandemic Legacy: Season 1 (blue version)
Pandemic Legacy: Season 1 (red version)

If combat-based narrative campaigns aren’t your thing, how about working together to purge the world of infectious diseases? Building on the success of the original Pandemic, this introduces “legacy” concepts to the game, where components are added or removed as you progress through the game, based on your decisions, successes and chess. After a few listens, your copy will be a unique recording of your band’s piece. So, in addition to offering a very personal story to engage with, Pandemic: Legacy also individualizes your strategic experience. It’s a magical combination that spawned two more seasons, creating an epic story and strategy arc to enjoy with a playgroup or even as one of the best family board games.

Twilight struggle

Twilight struggle

Presented as a Cold War simulation and with sharp rules, Twilight Struggle can seem daunting to the uninitiated. But there’s a reason it was widely acclaimed the greatest game of all time after its release in 2009. Players have hands of event cards that replicate key moments in the conflict, either side-related or to their opponent. If you play an opponent’s card, you can still make moves on the board, but their event also occurs. It makes every hand a thrilling tactical dance of play and counterplay as you try to advance your plans while undoing enemy events. Along with the great strategy training, you might even learn a bit of history.

Farmer

Farmer

Another game that has spent its time in the “best game ever” spotlight is this unlikely farming game. However, taking a step back from the theme, raising a family to work on a family farm is a doppelganger of the popular worker placement mechanic. As a result, Agricola evokes a real sense of growing and developing your humble plantation into a thriving place, with plenty of interesting strategic bumps to navigate along the way. Its particular genius lies in its enormous decks of cards, of which only a handful are used in each game, which guarantees great strategic variety and allows you to adapt elements such as complexity and interaction to the tastes of your group.

Burgundy Castles

Burgundy Castles

Entering this game of estate building in medieval France, you could be forgiven for feeling overwhelmed by the options for developing your castle. Luckily, it’s a dice-based game where rolling each turn limits your choices of where you can take action. But don’t be fooled into thinking this is a random game: instead, the dice are there to keep throwing curveballs at you that you have to dodge while you build a strategy. A classic case of having too much to do and too little to do, every action in every round feels weighed down by impossible priorities, keeping you stretched until the points are tallied.

Lords of Waterdeep

Lords of Waterdeep

Marrying Dungeons & Dragons sensibilities with modern board game mechanics, Lords of Waterdeep has made a smash hit to last through the ages. Players take on the role of power brokers in the largest city in the Forgotten Realms, hiring adventurers to defeat the perils threatening Waterdeep while building new facilities in the city. It’s these additions that take this unusually themed worker placement game to the next level, with new buildings coming into play ensuring that new strategies are needed every time. Add a minimum of minor “take that” cards to spice things up and you have a brilliant deck with very high appeal.

Ticket to ride

Ticket to ride

Ticket to Ride is one of the few hobby board games to turn into mainstream sales, a runaway success. It’s a combination of concepts familiar with players collecting cards, like a game of rummy, in an attempt to claim matching routes on a map of the United States. But beware: this is a tight table with relatively few potential connections between cities that you will need to complete your allocated routes. And if another player gets there first, you’ll lose potential points instead of gaining them. Easy to learn and exciting to play and with a wide variety of builds and expansion cards, Ticket to Ride is great fun for all ages. It also works well as a two-player or group board game.

Concordia

Concordia

While conquest games involving ancient Rome cost ten percent, Concordia instead has you maneuvering a noble family to gain wealth and contact at the height of the empire. The game is conducted using a deck of action cards which you can expand, using the wealth of your trades, as the game progresses, allowing you to adapt your strategy accordingly. But most importantly, your final score also depends on these cards, with different cards earning you points in different ways, from goods in your warehouse to settler parts on the board. This creates a fascinating and rich strategy layer, wheel-to-wheel, while the resource management elements also allow you to mess up your opponent’s plans while advancing your own.

Summoner Wars 2nd Edition

Summoner Wars

Collector’s games rise and fall in popularity and in-print status, making even classics like Magic: the Gathering difficult to include in this type of list. Summoner Wars, however, with its clever mix of card-based and board-based gameplay, has an evergreen feel about it, and best of all, its collection comes in packages. So if you get tired of taking on the six included factions, you can simply add more to your collection. By forcing players to use cards as both units and currency, it allows everyone to make knife-edge decisions as they maneuver around the board and roll against opposing units in their quest to kill the enemy summoner, until death on board.

Code names

Code names

Bursting onto the scene in 2015, Codenames changed the face of board games forever. Instead of quizzes or trivial tasks, it challenged players to find clues to connect a series of seemingly unrelated words. Thus, you can associate “Travel”, “Rome” and perhaps even “Embassy” with the index “Holidays”. The concept proved so accessible and addictive that it launched a whole new genre of synonym-based word games, each giving different spins on a similar formula. But for ease of teaching and breadth of fun, the original is still the best.

The Warriors’ situation isn’t exactly dire per se, but a moment of introspection can’t hurt.

Trailing 1-0 to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals after a frustrating Game 1 loss Thursday night at Chase Center, Golden State will collectively watch itself for 48 hours in the mirror before Game 2 Sunday night.

That, and maybe they’ll join hands in a prayer circle.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, Warriors superstar Steph Curry spoke about previous “come to Jesus” moments that have helped the team weather tough times throughout the season.

“Look how we responded from Game 5 to Game 6 of the Memphis Series,” Curry said. “Game 4 to 5 in the Dallas series. Even times throughout the regular season where things start to get a little out of hand sometimes and kind of have your moment coming to Jesus like we have to play it right. How are are we going to flip the script and get things back on track? We’ve generally responded pretty well. It’s a collective effort with defense in mind first, and just an understanding of how we all work together to create good shots on the offensive side.

“You said it was the first time we lost 0-1 [in these playoffs]. It’s the first time for a lot of things with this particular group. We are here in the final for a reason because we figured it out along the way. If we want to come back to this series, we have to figure it out again.”

It’s just one game, but is it another “come to Jesus moment” for the Warriors?

“Absolutely,” Curry said.

It’s the NBA Finals, one of the biggest milestones in professional sports. Every bad decision, no matter how small, needs to be thought through.

For Curry and the Warriors, their autopsy of what went wrong in the fourth quarter of Game 1 will determine how they prevent such a disaster in Game 2.

DALLAS — With every mass shooting comes mourning but also ultimately debate over who or what is to blame for them happening in the United States at such a high rate.

In Uvalde’s wake, a familiar culprit once again received partial blame.

Speaking at the National Rifle Association (NRA) convention in Houston just days after the shooting, Senator Ted Cruz mentioned video games as part of a decaying culture that breeds mass shooters.

This is not the first time that video games have been mentioned in connection with shootings. Former President Donald Trump and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick have also pointed the finger at video games following other recent shootings.

THE QUESTION

Is there a connection between the violent use of video games and mass shooters?

THE SOURCE

THE ANSWER

There is no strong connection between mass shooters and violent video games.

WHAT WE FOUND

Several studies have been conducted on the subject, including research conducted by the Department of Education and Oxford University, neither showing a significant crossover between violent video games and gunfights. Even a Supreme Court decision included a quote stating that no connection to violence could be positively drawn to video games.

But the American Psychological Association has a Violent Video Games Task Force that studies the impacts of games on the people who play them. In a 2020 update of a 2015 resolutionthe APA stated that although there is a small association between violent gaming and aggressive behavior, this behavior shows no evidence of extension to more violent tendencies.
