Davie wins player of the week

SAN MATEO, Calif. — The West Coast Conference announced that senior forward Adam David was named Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending August 28.

Davie had a treat this week with a first-half brace against SIUE on Thursday night before scoring the winner against San Diego State on Sunday night in the 87th minute.

Davie’s first game came against the Cougars with just four minutes on the clock. Derek Bonman played a low cross that Davie momentarily controlled with his right foot before tapping with his left to open the scoring for the Lions this season.

Just seven minutes later, Davie found the net on a Goodman wire. After Goodman’s through ball found Davie’s feet, the striker fired a low shot which the keeper got his hands on, but that wasn’t enough to stop the ball bouncing and Davie swung away as a sign of celebration.

Against the Aztecs, it was almost a replay of the first goal. Stefan Reuters took the throw-in against the baseline and slid the ball dangerously into the face of the goal and Davie’s positioning allowed him to react quickly and grab what would end up being the winning goal.

“The guy is really brilliant. The way he moves off the ball, the way he creates space in the box… it’s no surprise he came out of the first game with two goals .” says the head coach Kyle Schmid. “I think he has a bit of a goalscoring touch and I’m a bit disappointed to only have him for a year.” Schmid said.

The Lions as a group are now 2-0 this season and will look to extend that winning streak on Thursday night against UNLV.
