NOPL Brewerton hosts adventures for all ages – Eagle News Online

BREWERTON – Summer expeditions are ready to be found at the Northern Onondaga Public Library (NOPL) in Brewerton.

Throughout July, the Brewerton branch will be hosting a scavenger hunt. The hunt will take participants all over Brewerton.

“It’s meant to be a fun way to encourage people to explore the community,” said Brewerton branch manager Alissa Borelli. “We would like to hear about what they found out that they didn’t know.”

Some of the scavenger hunt prompts include visiting a marina in Brewerton and the Arrowhead Lodge. Participants are encouraged to share photos of their scavenger hunt adventures on social media and tag the library with @noplibrary.

To participate in the scavenger hunt, customers must stop by the Brewerton branch to pick up the community scavenger hunt sheet. When the scavenger hunt is over, take the sheet back to the library to win prizes like candy, ice cream sundaes and more.

Starting in August, the Brewerton branch will also distribute a Brewerton puzzle. The questions all relate to “a current location in Brewerton which had a different function”.

“If you need help,” reads the puzzle sheet, “on the back is a word jumble that contains the answer.”

Those who complete the puzzle will receive a prize when they return the sheet to the library at any time during the month of August.

NOPL in Brewerton also offers summer activities for children. Every Thursday in July, patrons can pick up a Fairy Tale Detective Mystery Kit from the library.

Fairy Tale Detective Mystery Kits include clues and photos to help solve the mystery each week. All puzzles are themed around classic fairy tales such as Rumpelstiltskin and Cinderella.

Children can solve the mysteries alone or with their family. Each kit is non-sequential, so kids can have fun anytime. Also, if someone misses a week, they can always go back and solve the previous week’s kit.

The week-long mystery was the thrilling theft of the evil stepmother’s pet, with suspects including Cruella de Vil and Maleficent. For solving the puzzles, kids will win a Disney-themed treat bag, which includes fun straws, stickers and more.

To participate in the fairy tale detective, stop by the Brewerton branch every Thursday and report the answer whenever the case is solved.
