Resumption of Cowboys Defensive Player of the Year from Micah Parsons
The Dallas Cowboys improved to 9-4 with a huge divisional road victory over the Washington football team on Sunday. But, after getting off to a 24-0 start in the first half, the attack came to a standstill and couldn’t do anything.
Luckily for Dallas, the defense grew stronger and played a great game. The lightless defensive performance was led by rookie linebacker Micah Parsons. With an incredibly impressive rookie campaign, the linebacker is now in the conversation for NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
Without further ado, let’s see why Parsons can and should win the Defensive Player of the Year award.
Stats that show Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons is DPOY material
Parsons is putting up monster stats in his first season. He has 12 sacks in all 13 games and is three sacks behind the NFL rookie sack record. He also has 75 combined tackles this year, 17 tackles for a loss and 27 QB hits.
Parsons has at least one sack in his last six straight games. His 17 tackles for a loss rank second in the NFL. Parsons joins Leslie O’Neal and Hall of Fame member Reggie White as the only rookies in history with over 12 sacks and over 75 tackles.
Plus, since Week 9, Parsons has easily been the best defensive player in the league.
The versatility of Parsons is what makes it truly unique. He can line up at any linebacker or defensive end position and make a massive impact. In his first year in the NFL, the rookie looks like a type of player in a generation, and the Cowboys are lucky to have him. His stats as a rookie even compare favorably to Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor’s.
Micah Parsons current odds to win Defensive Player of the Year award
Prior to the start of the season, Parsons wasn’t even listed as an option for Defensive Player of the Year. In the first two weeks, his campaign for Defensive Beginner of the year has become clear. You can consider this trophy already on the Parsons shelf. According to WynnBet, his odds for DROY are -5000. The next player in line is Patrick Surtain II at +1200.
But, after his dominant performance on Sunday, Parsons’ odds propelled him to the top of the list. WynnBet has it attached with Myles Garrett (a constant favorite for the price) at +275. It just goes to show that this kid really deserves to win based on his game. I think Parsons deserves a ton of credit for the Dallas defense turnaround this season. Last year was one of the worst defenses in all of football.
Sometimes those one-season rewards can turn into “what have you been doing for me lately” rewards. As I said before, Parsons has been playing better than any player since Week 9, and how he wraps up those last four games will be crucial to his DPOY chances.
NFL, Twitter Respond to Cowboys ‘Micah Parsons’ Stellar Rookie Campaign
Around the league there are a ton of former and current NFL players who have taken notice of what Parsons has been able to accomplish on the football field.
There’s no denying the headlines and rookie uproar in the league. Cowboys fans should consider themselves lucky to have a player like Parsons on their team for at least the next five seasons. Hopefully he can stay healthy and continue to lead that defense all the way on his way to the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award.
