Spy x Family Episode 5 picks up with the Forgers learning if Anya has been accepted into Eden College – and the answer to that question is, well, complicated.

The start of “Will They Succeed or Fail?” sees the trio realize that Anya didn’t make the cut. However, after a conversation with Master Henderson, things begin to look up. Breaking school rules, Henderson tells the Forgers that Anya is at the top of Eden College’s waiting list. This means she will get a spot as long as someone chooses not to register.

Of course, Yor has some hilarious ideas about Princess Thorn securing Anya’s place. But in the end, the Forgers get a call that Anya will be going to school after all. With Operation Strix depending on her acceptance, this takes a huge weight off Twilight’s shoulders. That’s probably why he’s willing to throw a big party for Anya – one that sees him play the role of a fake spy, like Bondman.

After learning that Anya has entered Eden College, the Forger family celebrates their great achievement. Whether Twilight adopts her spy persona or that of Loid Forger, there’s no denying that he’s thrilled that she’s coming in. And with some advice from Anya and Franky, he agrees to stage a pseudo-mission resembling Anya’s favorite TV show.

To capture the essence of Spy Wars, the Forgers head to a castle/amusement park, where Twilight enlists colleagues from her agency to join in on their adventure. None of his fellow spies know what’s going on, but it creates a bizarre and hilarious scenario. And they’re all eager to fight Twilight, which they get the opportunity to do thanks to Franky and Anya’s play.

The duo set the stage like this: Franky is the bad guy and he’s captured Princess Anya. Twilight – now nicknamed “Loidman” – must save her. However, this involves taking on Franky and his minions. He also ends up fighting a drunken Yor before he manages to “rescue” his daughter. And despite the silly, over-the-top story, those moments of Spy x Family Episode 5 features fun action scenes and stunning animation.

It’s also nice to see the Forgers more relaxed, especially after all the stress of Anya’s interview. Of course, their reprieve probably won’t last long. Although “Will they pass or fail?” made up mainly of filler, it marks a turning point.

The Twilight Mission is officially on, which means viewers are about to get into the nitty-gritty of Operation Strix.

Twilight’s real mission begins now

The Forgers may find time to have fun in Spy x Family Episode 5, but the real mission begins now that Anya has been accepted into Eden College. So far, Twilight has tried to get Operation Strix off the ground. This episode marks a turning point, and we’ll soon see him navigate the politics of the prestigious school.

The preview for next week’s episode promises fans will meet the other students and families accepted into Eden College. We’ll have to wait and see how the Forgers fare amongst so many well-to-do peers. If nothing else, Episode 5 proves they have a knack for barely getting by. Hopefully this serves them well as they move forward with their family facade.

New episodes of Spy x Family debuts every Saturday on Crunchyroll and Hulu.
