Windows 11 features may come as separate downloads

Microsoft has been working on “Windows Experience Pack” for some time now and it is currently available for Windows 10 and Windows 11. In addition to Windows Experience Packs, Microsoft is now experimenting with another update delivery system called “Online Service Experience Packs. “. .

Like Windows Experience Packs, Online Experience Packs are said to be a new way to provide functionality to Windows 11 users without requiring them to download a new version of the operating system.

Microsoft released the first version of the Online Service Experience Pack for Windows Insiders in the Dev channel and it apparently works the same as Feature Experience Packs. For now, it should include improvements for the new Microsoft account integration introduced with build 22489.

Windows 11 Account Build 22489

Windows 11 Build 22489 comes with a new page to manage your Microsoft account. As you can see in the screenshot above, the Windows 11 “Your Microsoft Account” settings show information about your active subscriptions, apps, services, and other account details.

For example, you can also view your Outlook email and access links to order history, payment details (linked cards), and Microsoft Rewards.

Based on feedback from testers, Microsoft plans to improve the Windows Settings app through online service experience packs.

These online service experience packs would allow the company to make changes to the operating system outside of major Windows feature updates.

If you are in the dev channel, you can expect a new update called “Online Service Experience Pack – Windows.Settings.Account”.

This particular update will only make changes to the “Microsoft Account” page in the Settings app, according to Microsoft.

This is because the online service experience packs will be released with enhancements for specific experiences only. For example, you can expect improvements to the Disk Management page, Windows Update page, and other areas of the Settings app through these Windows 11 updates.

If the company wants to make improvements to the board in multiple areas of the File Explorer, Start menu, and taskbar, it will release Windows Feature Experience Packs and a Windows Features Update.

Experience packs are available through Windows Update and you can check for updates to find them.

It looks like the online experience packs will be exclusive to Windows 11, as the goal is to use these updates to improve various shells and features of the modern operating system. Windows 11 has modern components like a new taskbar and new settings, which could make it easy for Microsoft to add new features without needing a whole new update for Windows.
